Why Your PS3 is Vulnerable to Failure
Many of the more serious problems that users are experiencing with the PS3 is thought to be due to a design flaw with the console that makes it vulnerable to malfunctions.
The blinking Yellow Light fault, which has been aptly named the "Yellow Light of Death" (YLOD) is probably the most serious and prevalent problem that PS3 owners complain of.
It's believed the processor gets so hot that the tiny solder points on the GPU liquifies and over time loses its connection with the motherboard. That also explains why YLOD is often reported on PS3's 20GB and 60GB models that have older less efficient processors, as they generate more heat.
The red light is a different problem which normally occurs due to a major hard drive failure.
What To Do to Keep Your PS3 in Good Working Order
In many cases as soon as you start getting any flashing red or yellow lights, its advisable to take immediate preventative action. By ignoring your PS3's warning lights even if they should disappear, you may inadvertently be bottling up a more serious problem further down the line.
Often problems begin because the console gets too hot for too long and isn't able to cool down sufficiently to maintain optimal performance.
The secret to ensuring that you get many years of error-free use out of your PS3 is to maintain optimum working conditions and environment for your console. Click here for guidance on the optimal working environment for your PS3.
